Member of Parliament for Bodi, Samson Ahi, has questioned why the vice president opted to go on a pilgrimage to Mecca at the time the Ghanaian economy is facing huge challenges.
According to him, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia did the nation a great disservice by travelling to the Holy land of Mecca, Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj when the local currency is “fast depreciating”.
“Instead of Bawumia to be in Ghana to arrest the Cedi as he promised during the electioneering campaign, he chose to go to Mecca. Why is he hiding there? He must come immediately because his baby is crying.
“Bawumia told Ghanaians and the world that he has got the antidote to cure the depreciation of the Cedi if elected into power only for him to go and hide in Mecca at this critical moment,” Mr Ahi alleged.
On that score, the NDC lawmaker accused the ruling NPP of campaigning on deceit to win political power, adding that “Ghanaians have learned their lessons”.
Mr Ahi stresses that the NPP has “deceived” Ghanaians and must be voted out without hesitation in 2020.
The MP made the accusations on Adom TV on Tuesday when commenting on the performance of the local currency.
“Where is Bawumia? Somebody should call him for me. Why did he run to Mecca at this difficult period? Tell him to come and fix the Cedi,” the Bodi MP added.
